After Missing Out On Josh McCown, Matt Cassel Could Be An Option For The Bills?

The Cleveland Browns announced Friday that they have reached an agreement with former Buccaneers QB Josh McCown three-year contract.

According to reports, the Buffalo Bills were also in contract negotiations with McCown, but ultimately weren’t able to get him under contract.

Given how limited the free agent market is in terms of quarterback talent, teams like Bills are in a real tough position when it comes to finding someone who could solidify the quarterback position.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports mentions that one name to keep an eye on in regards to the Bills’ job is Vikings’ backup QB Matt Cassel in the event Minnesota releases him in the coming days.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan has also heard that Cassel could be an option for Buffalo, depending on what the Vikings want to do with him.

Cassel, 32, signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings in March of last year. He stands to make a base salary of $4.15 million for the upcoming season and carries a cap figure of $4.75 million.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Vikings wouldn’t incur any dead money from releasing Cassel and would instead pick up all $4.75 million in available cap space.

Cassel began the 2014 season as the team’s starting quarterback, but unfortunately suffered a foot injury that led to him being placed on season-ending injured reserve.

We’ll have more regarding the Bills’ quarterback situation as the news is available.
