Alabama CB Dee Milliner In Play For The Lions At No. 5 Overall?

Tim Twentyman of Lions.com writes that the Detroit Lions are considering drafting Alabama CB Dee Milliner with the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

Twentyman adds that Milliner’s size (6-1, 197) is an attribute that defensive coordinator Gunther Cunninghamcovets” in defensive backs.

GM Martin Mayhew mentioned that he has eye on impact defensive players and Milliner is by far the best available cornerback in this year’ draft class, so it’s a pretty easy connection to make.

“We need interceptors, we need guys that sack the quarterback, we need guys that cause fumbles, guys that make plays on third down,” said Mayhew. “Those are the kind of guys that can change the game for us.”

Detroit’s top CB Chris Houston will be an unrestricted free agent and it’s hard to say whether or not he’ll be back with the team next season. Milliner would be tough to pass on at No. 5 overall, but we have them addressing the defensive end position by taking Bjoern Werner out of Florida State in our recently updated 2013 NFL Mock Draft.

We currently have Milliner listed as our No. 8 in our 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
