Alabama Hiring Patriots TEs Coach Brian Daboll As Offensive Coordinator

Chris Low of ESPN is reporting that Patriots TEs coach Brian Daboll will be named Alabama’s new offense coordinator.

Daboll previously interviewed for the job and indications have been that he was the guy to beat for the position.

Alabama lost Steve Sarkisian to the Falcons after he accepted their offensive coordinator position a few weeks ago.

Ben Volin mentioned that Daboll was viewed as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator-in-waiting should Josh McDaniels depart for another head-coaching job. However, it appears Daboll felt this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Daboll, 41, actually worked under Nick Saban while they were together at Michigan State back in 1998. He was later hired by the Patriots as their defensive coaching assistant before eventually taking over as the team’s wide receivers coach.

Since then, Daboll has worked for a number of NFL teams including the Jets, Browns, Dolphins and Chiefs before returning to the Patriots in 2013 as their coaching assistant. He has been working as the team’s tight ends coach the past few years.

It’s worth mentioning that Daboll has four years of NFL experience as an offensive coordinator.
