  • Rapoport adds that the first two years of the contract essentially are fully guaranteed, with more in year three of the deal.
  • Peter King reports that the Falcons will pay Mack an average salary of $9.5 million per year.
  • According to King, the Browns were willing to pay him $500,000 more than that.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Falcons are closing in on a deal with Browns free agent C Alex Mack.

  • However, Schefter cautions that a deal between the two parties isn’t just yet.

Mike Silver of NFL Media believe the Falcons are the “leading contender” to sign Browns free agent C Alex Mack.

  • However, Silver adds that the Browns could still make a late push to retain him.

Zach Klein of WSB in Atlanta reports that Browns free agent C Alex Mack is “giving serious consideration” to signing the Falcons.

Last night, D. Orlando Ledbetter reported that the Falcons are exploring their options in regards to trying Mack.

Ledbetter suggests that Mack could end up signing a four- or five-year, $50 million contract when all is said and done, so the Falcons will need to make sure this won’t impact their ability to address other roster needs.

Jason Cole of B/R previously reported that Mack has generated “extensive interest” from the Falcons along with other teams like the Rams and Jaguars.

However, Cole mentioned that the Rams were unlikely to be willing to pay him the kind of money he’s seeking and Jacksonville was reportedly backing off of him due to his age and high cost.

Mack, 30, was technically in the second year of his five-year, $42 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed. He would have made annual base salaries of $8 million over the remainder of the agreement and the deal includes a no-trade clause.

In 2015, Mack appeared in all 16 games and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 16 center out of 40 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
