Alex Smith Not Generating A Lot Of Interest From NFL Teams

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, there hasn’t been a “hot market” for 49ers QB Alex Smith thus far.

Mortensen adds that San Francisco may have to accept a fourth-round pick in return for him.

“Bottom line is there’s not gonna be a lot of suitors for him,” said Mortensen on NFL 32, via Rotoworld.com. “Maybe a fourth-rounder gets it done.

Mortensen mentioned earlier in the day that the 49ers were “highly, highly, highly unlikely” to release Smith, so there’s a chance he could be back as the team’s backup next season if they feel that the offers they’re receiving for him don’t match his true value.

It’s worth noting that Smith only drew interest from the 49ers and Dolphins last year, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that teams aren’t lining up for him despite the lack of options in this year’s free agent class.
