Allen Robinson Believes He’s Earned Contract Extension From Jaguars

Jaguars WR Allen Robinson mentioned that he believes he has “earned” a contract extension from the team and expects to have a big year for Jacksonville.

“If we get something done, we do and if not, I have a big year coming ahead for me and I have an obligation to my teammates to play at a high level,” Robinson said, via the Florida Times-Union.

Many expected Robinson to build on his impressive 2015 season and work his way into the discussion as one of the best receivers in the league. However, the results weren’t there for him and the Jaguars’ offense as a whole in 2016.

“The most frustrating part of [last] year was that I was an improved player coming in,” Robinson explained. “I was a better route runner, I thought I was creating more separation. Even though the outcome wasn’t there, I knew that. … Now it’s coming in as an even more improved player and having that strain. We have to do it every day and every game.”

Robinson added that he and the team are now looking forward to getting things turned around this year.

We know we have a big task ahead of us as far as fixing this offense,” Robinson said. “I’m looking forward to that.”

Even with the disappointing season, Allen has earned a long-term contract and should be among the most sought after players as a free agent next year.

Robinson, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.510 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $898,755 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Robinson appeared in all 16 games and caught 73 passes for 883 yards receiving and six touchdowns for the Jaguars. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 55 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a new deal for Robinson as the news is available.
