Andre Johnson Would Like To Sign One-Day Contract To Retire With Texans

Long-time Texans WR Andre Johnson Thursday mentioned that would like to sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Texans:

It’ll be great if it happens,“Johnson said, per Mark Berman. “Hopefully it will happen.

In order for him to retire as a member of the Texans, Johnson would need to be released off of the Titans’ reserve/retired list, as they would hold his rights in the event he elects to come out of retirement and return to the NFL.

It would make plenty of sense for, arguably, the greatest player in Texans’ franchise history to retire as a member of the organization. If it were to take place, it likely wouldn’t happen until the offseason.

Johnson, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2003. He spent 12 years in Houston before signing on with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent last year. However, Johnson wound up being cut loose after just one season and eventually signed on with the Titans.

In 2016, Johnson appeared in eight games for the Titans and recorded nine receptions for 85 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

For his career, Johnson totaled 1,062 receptions for 14,185 yards receiving and 70 touchdowns over the course of 14 seasons. He was a 7-time Pro Bowl selection and made two All-Pro first teams.
