Andre Johnson Unsure If He’ll Play For The Texans This Year

While appearing on the NFL Network, Texans WR Andre Johnson was asked if he be in a Texans uniform for the start of the regular season to which Johnson replied: “I don’t know. I can’t answer that question.”

Johnson wouldn’t add much beyond that as he referred to the situation as being “in-house” business.

“I just choose not to talk publicly about it,” Johnson said, via Pro Football Talk. “It’s in-house and that’s the way I choose to keep it. I’m not a big media guy, so I won’t — you know, I refuse to talk about it. Training camp’s a few weeks away, so we’ll see what happens.

Johnson has already skipped both voluntary workouts and mandatory minicamp so his situation is worth monitoring in the coming months.

A few months ago, Johnson reportedly expressed his frustrations with the current state of team, which led to plenty of speculation that he could request a trade out of Houston.

His salary limits the number of teams that could actually afford to take on his contract. Most of the teams with a lot of space are currently in the rebuilding process while only a few contenders could actually afford to bring him in.

As of now, that list includes the BengalsEaglesPackers, and Colts as the only teams who could currently take on his contract and possibly give him a chance to compete for a title. However, you could make the case that these teams are set at receiver.

Johnson, soon to be 33, still has three years remaining on his seven-year, $62.7 million contract. He’s set to make $6.5 million for the 2014 season before his base salary increases to $10.5 million in 2015.

In 2013, Johnson caught 109 passes for 1,407 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
