Update: Texans Have No Intentions To Trade WR Andre Johnson

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have no plans whatsoever to trade WR Andre Johnson.

  • McClain believes that Johnson will eventually report with the team before the Texans season opener.

If for some reason Johnson decides not to report for the regular season, he’ll forfeit $588,235 a week.

The Texans want Johnson to finish his career in Houston, but perhaps a major factor is that they “don’t want to set a precedent for similar situations” that might flourish in succeeding seasons.

Johnson, soon to be 33, still has three years remaining on his seven-year, $62.7 million contract. He’s set to make $6.5 million for the 2014 season before his base salary increases to $10.5 million in 2015.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Texans WR Andre Johnson is willing to restructure his contract in order to facilitate a trade.

  • However, Rapoport adds that Johnson is not willing to take a pay cut in the process.
  • Rapoport mentions that the Raiders could be a team to keep an eye on as Johnson shares the same agent as GM Reggie McKenzie.

There is no telling if Johnson would be willing to play for the Raiders, even if they were to have interest in trading for him.

Previous reports mentioned that Johnson wants to play for a contender, which would obviously hurt the Raiders’ chances as well as other teams like the Browns who have plenty of cap space to take on Johnson’s contract.

The Ravens, Patriots,Panthers, Chiefs, Falcons, Chargers, Rams, Seahawks and Jets have all come up as speculative options.

Rapoport reported earlier in the day that Johnson has informed the Texans that he would like to play for a new team, but Houston is reportedly resisting his demands.

  • According to Rapoport, four NFL teams have expressed interest in trading for Johnson.

Johnson’s absence from offseason workouts is reportedly related to a “standoff” involving a $1 million workout bonus. He is hoping to earn it back, despite missing some time, but the team has reportedly told him that they won’t be offering him the money.
