Anquan Boldin Prepared To Retire If Ravens Release Him

There has already been plenty made about the Ravens’ cap issues this offseason. One idea that has been proposed is to release WR Anquan Boldin who is set to make $6 million next year.

Boldin told Pro Football Talk’s Erik Kuselias this afternoon that the Ravens will be the last team he plays for and he’s willing to retire if they were to release him in the coming weeks.

“You deal with that if you have to, but, I think for m — I know for me — Baltimore is the only place I want to play, said Boldin,” via Pro Football Talk.  “It’s the last place that I will play.  For me, I’ll retire a Raven, I’m not putting on any other uniform.”

“I won’t play in another uniform,” added Boldin.  “We have a saying, once a Raven, always a Raven, and I’ll always be a Raven.

Boldin, 32, currently counts $7.531 million against the team’s salary cap, so there stands at least a reasonable chance that he could be approached regarding a pay cut to free up some much needed cash.

The Ravens could save $5.5 million by releasing Boldin, but in the process they would be creating another hole to fill at some point during the offseason.

We’ll have to see what comes of this situation in the next few weeks.
