Austin Collie Not In The 49ers’ Plans?

According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, veteran WR Austin Collie is not a part of the 49ers plans moving forward.

  • Branch notes that Jim Harbaugh indicated during the team’s training camp that Collie is hasn’t fully recovered from the ruptured patella tendon injury he suffered last year.
  • On top of that, Collie only received 14 snaps during Sunday’s preseason game and didn’t see any action until the third quarter.

Branch has the 49ers keeping Anquan Boldin, Kyle Williams, Marlon Moore, Quinton Patton, Jon Baldwin and Kassim Osgood as their wide receivers this year.

Collie, 27, visited with a number of NFL teams before ultimately signing with San Francisco. If he is in fact released, it’s going to be hard for him to catch on with another team in the coming weeks given the sheer number of players who will be released before the start of the regular season. Add in the fact that there are real concerns regarding Collie’s serious history of concussions and it seems as though the odds are against him playing at all this season.
