Austin Seferian-Jenkins “Highly Unlikely” To Be Back With Jets

According to Rich Cimini, it’s “highly unlikely” free agent TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins will be back with the Jets for the 2018 season.

Cimini reports that the Jets and Seferian-Jenkins aren’t close to an agreement and he is currently drawing interest from the Falcons and Seahawks.

The Jets are reportedly offering Seferian-Jenkins just a two-year, $8 million contract and Cimini explains that this could be due to the fact that he was a non-factor for them in the second half of the season.

Beyond that, the Jets believe Jordan Leggett can be a receiving tight end for them Eric Tomlinson could serve as their blocking tight end. Even so, Cimini thinks they should still add a veteran tight end if they lose Seferian-Jenkins.

Mike Garafolo reportedly earlier that the Saints are also expected to have some interest in Seferian-Jenkins as well.

Seferian-Jenkins, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. The Buccaneers elected to move on from Seferian-Jenkins a few years ago after he was arrested for driving under the influence and he was later claimed off of waivers from the Jets.

Seferian-Jenkins played out the final year of his four-year, $5.254 million contract and is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time this offseason.

In 2017, Seferian-Jenkins appeared in 13 games for the Jets and caught 50 passes for 357 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 44 tight end out of 71 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
