The Chicago Bears announced that they’ve activated WR Alshon Jeffery from exempt/commissioner permission list and placed WR Marquess Wilson on their season-ending injured reserve after breaking his left foot.
Jeffery, 26, was taken in the second-round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Bears. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.54 million rookie contract that included a $1.74 million signing bonus before receiving the team’s franchise tag.
The franchise tag will run the Bears $14.599 million guaranteed for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Jeffery has appeared in nine games and caught 40 passes for 630 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Bears. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.
Wilson, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the Bears back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.208 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season.
He was placed on the PUP list to open the season and suffered a setback during Week 13 against the 49ers. He also sustained a season-ending foot injury last season, making this the third time he has aggravated his foot.
In 2016, Wilson appeared in three games for the Bears and recorded just nine receptions for 160 yards receiving and one touchdown.
