Bears An Option For Tim Tebow?

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio writes that the Chicago Bears could be a potential landing spot for Tim Tebow now that they have hired Marc Trestman as their next head coach.

Trestman actually helped Tebow prepare for the 2010 draft and recruited him to join North Carolina State back when he was their offensive coordinator.

“I don’t know that I’m the only one who has the sense of Tim’s ability to be developed and become a very good player in the league,” said Trestman of Tebow back in 2010, via the Morning Journal.  “I believe in the right environment Tim Tebow will figure this out. He doesn’t have explosive arm strength, but he has more than adequate arm strength to throw the ball in the NFL and make all the throws.  I saw him do something totally different in seven or eight days. I can only imagine what he’s going to do in one year or two years, because he’s going to outwork everybody else and find a way to figure it out.”

Florio adds that the Alouettes actually hold the negotiating rights to Tebow, should he ever consider playing in the CFL.

It’s hard to put a lot of stock in the idea of Tebow landing with Bears, but there’s at least a very remote chance that they could bring him in during the offseason. Jason Campbell is set to become a free agent in the next few months, so there’s a good chance they be looking for a backup quarterback.

The Jaguars have publicly stated that they will not consider signing Tebow if or when he becomes available, so it will be interesting to see if there’s any interest in him at all or whether he’s willing to change positions to keep playing in the NFL.
