Jets, Bears, Bills, & Browns Among Interested Teams In QB Josh McCown

Update:

New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan confirmed that met with free agent QB Josh McCown at the Scouting Combine, per Manish Mehta.

  • This brings the list of interested teams to: the Jets, Bills, Browns, and Bears.

Jets HC Todd Bowles mentioned that “it’s possible” they will add a veteran quarterback at some point this offseason, so it will be interesting to how aggressive they are in pursing available quarterbacks to compete with Geno Smith.

Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day that eight NFL teams have shown some level interest in McCown since he became available.

Vaughn McClure of ESPN first reported that new Bears HC John Fox met with former Buccaneers QB Josh McCown this morning.

  • Jeff Dickerson added that Bears GM Ryan Pace was also in attendance for the meeting.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns are also interested in the free agent quarterback.

According to Cabot, the two sides haven’t officially planned a visit yet, but could do at some point in the near future.

Cabot adds that McCown would like to be a mentor for Johnny Manziel or another young quarterback that they could bring at some point this offseason.

McCown has already met with the Bills, but ultimately left without a contract offer, so he clearly has a solid market developing for his services.

In the end, it could come down to who gives him the best opportunity to compete for a starting job.

McCown, 35, threw for 2,206 yards while completing 56.3 percent of his passes to go along with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
