Bears “Drawing A Line” Concerning Negotiations With Matt Forte?

Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo made an appearance on ESPN 1000’s “The Waddle & Silvy Show” this afternoon and discussed the ongoing negotiations with RB Matt Forte.

Angelo said some weeks back that Forte’s contract was a priority for the Bears and added that they would like to get a deal done before the start of the season but from his comments today talks could be ending between the two sides.

“It’s got to happen sooner,” said Angelo. “I don’t like to necessarily go into training camp and negotiate with players. We like to do that in the offseason. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the ability to do that, but again we want to do the right thing by Matt so we are talking. We’re hopeful, but at some point we have to draw a line in the sand and just now focus on the season.”

Obviously there’s some room for interpretation when it comes to the “drawing a line” part but it sounds more like an ultimatum could be made at some point in the near future.

Angelo has already drawn criticism for the way he handle the Olin Kreutz negotiations and another issue with one of the teams best players isn’t likely to go over any better.
