Bears DT Henry Melton & Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer Accept Franchise Tenders

Jordan Woy tweets that both of his clients, Bears DT Henry Melton and Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer, have accepted their franchise tenders.

Woy adds that he plans on working out long-term contracts for both Melton and Spencer.

Melton, 26, receive a one-year deal worth a guaranteed $8.45 million. Chicago has mentioned that they would like to work out a contract extension with Melton, but he’s reportedly seeking a pretty large contract, so there’s really no guarantee that a deal will be in place before the start of the 2013 season.

Spencer, 29, gets a one-year deal worth $10.638 million. There have been rumors that the Cowboys could field offers for Spencer, but that speculation has since been refuted.

Given that the Cowboys are moving to a 4-3 base defense next year, it would make sense for them to see how Spencer plays before committing to him long-term. I’m sure Dallas would like to reduce his current salary, but there’s some risk with committing to him now.
