Bears Expected To Hire Brad Childress As Offensive Consultant

Adam Caplan reports that the Bears are expected to hire Brad Childress as an offensive consultant, despite the fact that Childress was reportedly retiring from coaching.

According to Caplan, Childress and new Bears HC Matt Nagy are “very close” and it appears as though Nagy was able to convince him to put off his retirement.

Childress, 61, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles as their QBs coach back in 1999. He spent seven years in Philadelphia before he was hired as the Vikings head coach in 2006.

Childress was fired by the Vikings after five years in Minnesota and he had a brief stint with the Browns before joining the Chiefs’ coaching staff in 2013. He was the team’s offensive coordinator in 2016 before being moved to assistant head coach last year.

During his time as the Vikings’ head coach, Childress led them to a record of 39-35 (52.7 percent), which includes two playoff appearances.
