Bears Expected To Move On Without KR Devin Hester

Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report writes that “it is starting to look like Devin Hester has brought back his last kick for the Bears.”

Pompei expects the Bears to allow Hester to walk and instead look for a kick returner who can also contribute on either offense or defense instead of carrying a guy as just a returner.

Hester, 31, will be a unrestricted free agent this March and many, including Pompei, have suggested that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be a potential option for him this offseason. This, of course, is due to Lovie Smith being hired as the team’s new head coach.

In 2013, he produced by far the most kick return yards in single season of his career with 1,442. He also totaled 256 punt return yards and a touchdown for the Bears in 2013.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 kick returner in the league last season.
