Bears Waiving QB Matt Blanchard, Signing QB Dalyn Williams

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports the Bears have informed QB Matt Blanchard that they’re placing him on waivers.

  • According to Briggs, the Bears are expected to sign rookie QB Dalyn Williams to a contract on Thursday.

Williams previously participated in the Bears’ rookie minicamp last month on a tryout basis, so he was clearly on their radar.

Blanchard, 27, originally signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin-Whitewater back in May of 2012. He spent his first year on the team’s practice before he was waived at the start of the 2013 season.

Blanchard has bounced around a bit in recent years, playing for the Panthers, Packers, Brown, and Colts before returning to the Bears on a future/reserve contract in January.

During his time at Wisconsin-Whitewater, he led the team to three Division III national titles.

Blanchard has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Williams wound up going undrafted out of Dartmouth over a month ago. During his college career, Williams threw for 7,458 yards while completing 62.7 percent of his passes to go along with 56 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
