Bears Have Expressed Interest In Re-Signing QB Brian Hoyer

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting that the Bears have expressed interest in re-signing veteran QB Brian Hoyer.

According to La Canfora, Hoyer will have interest from plenty of other teams in the coming weeks.

Chicago is reportedly in the market for QB Mike Glennon as well with some reports saying that they could be the favorites to land him this week.

Last week. John Mullin of CSN Chicago reported that the Bears were expected to meet with Hoyer’s representatives this past weekend. However, Mullin mentions that Hoyer is likely the team’s No. 3 option behind band Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo.

Hoyer is an interesting free agent give that he’s likely to generate interest from quarterback-needy teams who aren’t willing to hand out either a big-money deal or are unwilling to part with draft picks in a trade for someone like Garoppolo.

Hoyer, 31, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State back in 2009. He spent three years in New England before bouncing around with a few teams including the Steelers, Cardinals and Browns.

The Texans signed him to a two-year contract back in March of 2015 but he lasted just one year in Houston before he was cut. The Bears signed him to a one-year contract shortly after last year’s draft.

In 2016, Hoyer appeared in six games for the Bears and completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,445 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
