Bears Give LB Lance Briggs A One-Year Extension

According to Pro Football Talk, Lance Briggs will receive $17.5 million over three years, which includes $5 million guarantees.

The Chicago Bears have announced that they’ve extended Lance Briggs‘ contract by one-year which will keep him under team contract through the 2014 season.

Briggs signed a six-year deal worth $36 million back in 2008, but has since expressed his frustrations after other players have signed better contracts in recent year’s. Briggs, 31, has been a pretty consistent player for the Bears which has resulted in seven straight Pro Bowl appearances for him. Briggs has also played the run pretty well but offers very little in terms of getting to the quarterback. Both he and Brian Urlacher have done a great job together so I’m sure the Bears wanted to keep their linebackers in place for another few seasons.

We’re still waiting to hear the specifics on the extension, but they should be available in the coming hours.
