Bears Have Discussed Possibility Of Signing TE Jermaine Gresham

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears have discussed the possibility of pursuing free agent TE Jermaine Gresham.

According to Biggs, Chicago’s interest in Gresham could be to find a pass-catching behind starter Martellus Bennett.

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reported last night that the Packers are hosting Gresham for a visit this week.

Gresham met with the Cardinals earlier in the week, but recent reports have said that he planned to meet with other NFL teams.

The Saints reportedly have made Gresham a contract offer and he nearly agreed to a contract with the Raiders, so they figure to be in the mix for him as well.

Gresham, 27, is clearly one of the best available free agents. However, he diagnosed with a herniated disc a few months ago and wound up undergoing surgery, which took him out of the running for a number of jobs around the league.

In 2014, Gresham caught 62 passes for 460 yards receiving and five touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Gresham listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 25 Best Available Free Agents list.
