Bears HC Matt Nagy Spoke With Kareem Hunt, But Noncommittal On Signing Him

Bears HC Matt Nagy mentioned that he talked to former Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt a week ago to ask how he’s doing personally.

A good conversation. It’s an unfortunate situation (and) learning lesson for everybody,” Nagy said, per Rich Campbell.

Nagy added that he believes in second chances “but every situation is different.

Bears GM Ryan Pace clarified they “we’re not even close to that point” of pursuing a contract with Hunt, per Campbell.

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Hunt since he was cut by the Chiefs back in December after a video surfaced of a February altercation involving him and a 19-year-old woman.

The NFL has yet to suspend Hunt while they conduct their investigation into three separate incidents over the past year. For the time being, Hunt remains on the commissioner’s exempt list.

Previous reports have said that Hunt is facing more than the baseline six-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, given that he was involved in two other incidents last year.

Hunt, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $3.263-million contract and set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement when the Chiefs waived him in December.

In 2018, Hunt has appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 824 yards on 181 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 26 receptions for 378 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.

We have him featured in our Top 50 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
