Bears Hosting Former Packers G Josh Sitton For Visit, Could Meet With Saints Next

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that former Packers G Josh Sitton will take his first visit since becoming a free agent yesterday to Chicago and met with the Bears.

  • Assuming Sitton leaves his visit with the Bears, Schefter says that the Saints could be his second stop.
  • Schefter adds that with the money the Bears are about to give to Kyle Long and possibly Sitton, Chicago could have NFL’s priciest and best guard tandem.

Last night, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that Sitton is already generating interest from teams in the “double-digits.” Robinson considers it unlikely Sitton is on market for a while, considering that NFL scouts say he has superb toughness and leadership traits.

Sitton’s agent, Jack Reale, tells Josina Anderson of his client’s impending release:

I’m very optimistic of his prospects for playing for a number of additional years. He’s coming off of maybe his best camp in the last four years. He’s lighter, and he is in better shape. He is coming off of a Pro Bowl season and he just turned 30. I think he’s got lots left. I think all the teams that he has been playing against for the last several years are certainly aware of that and certainly teams within their division. So we will see what happens.

Sitton, 30, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He was in the final year of his six-year, $34.95 million contract that includes $8.9 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $5.9 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Sitton appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 6 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
