Bears LB Lance Briggs Says He May Be Out “A Few Weeks”

Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs announced on his own show that he may miss “a few weeks” as a result of the groin injury he suffered against the Buccaneers.

While Briggs did not give a definitive time table, it seems clear that he will at least miss Thursday’s matchup with the Lions.

The Bears defense has struggled all year, and will attempt to replace the all-pro with undrafted free agent LB Christian Jones.  While Chicago has high hopes for Jones, losing Briggs will undoubtedly hurt that second level of the defense, particularly against the run.

Briggs is in the final year of his deal, and he has already raised the possibility that this could be his last year in Chicago.

Pro Football Focus ranks Briggs as the No. 7 4-3 outside linebacker, a grade he earned primarily because of his ability against the run.
