Bears OLB Pernell McPhee Could Open Season On PUP List

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Bears OLB Pernell McPhee (knee) “faces the real prospect” of opening the 2016 season on the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him the first six games.

  • Rapoport adds that McPhee’s rehab from a knee injury has been slow thus far.

McPhee is currently on the active/PUP list, so transferring him to the reserve list would actually free up a roster spot ahead of the upcoming 53-man roster deadline.

McPhee, 27, is in the second year of his five-year, $38.75 million contract. The deal contains $15.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $7 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, McPhee appeared in 14 games for the Bears and recorded 53 tackles, six sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and three pass defenses.
