Bears OLB Willie Young Has Requested Trade Out Of Chicago

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source close to the team, reports that Bears OLB Willie Young asked the team for a trade after they sent veteran DE Jared Allen to the Panthers for a future sixth-round pick.

Chicago’s decision to trade Allen came down to the simple fact that he wasn’t a good fit in their 3-4 defense. According to Florio, Young also prefers to play in a 4-3 scheme.

Florio adds that the Bears aren’t having a fire sale right now, but he still believes it would make sense for them to at least consider trading Young if they get a decent offer for him.

Young, 30, is in the second year of his three-year, $9 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.45 million in each of the next two years.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Young would free up $1,833,332 in available cap space while creating $1,333,334 in dead money.

This season, Young has appeared in two games recorded just two tackles for the Bears. In 2014, Young managed to produce 9.5 sacks for Chicago and looked like a great addition.
