Bears Optimistic QB Mitchell Trubisky Will Play On Thursday, Despite Shoulder Injury

Adam Schefter reports that the Bears are optimistic that QB Mitchell Trubisky will be able to play against the Lions on Thursday, despite the shoulder injury he suffered last weekend against the Vikings.

Bears HC Matt Nagy said that Trubisky’s injury is a “day-to-day” situation.

“He has a right shoulder that we’re dealing with right now and it’s something that is going to be day-to-day for us,” Nagy said, per Brad Biggs. “This to me is going to be similar cautiously the same way as Khalil (Mack) and Allen (Robinson). He’s in pain, which is normal. But for us, again, this has been a short day-and-a-half for us.”

Nagy mentioned that the injury occurred on the late hit from Vikings S Harrison Smith.

As for playing in Week 12, Nagy said: “I’m staying cautiously optimistic, but I can’t make any promises. I hope he does. He wants to play, I know that. We’ve got to make sure in these situations we’re doing the right thing.”

The good news for Trubisky is that Nagy ruled out surgery and doesn’t consider it a long-term issue.

Trubisky showed up on Monday’s practice report with a DNP designation, due to a shoulder issue. Chicago didn’t actually practice yesterday, but the NFL requires teams to project a players status when they’re playing a Thursday game.

Trubisky, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Bears back in 2017. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $29 million contract that included a $19.17 million signing bonus and set to make base salaries of $892,238 and $152,156 over the next two years.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Bears to pick up in 2020.

In 2018, Trubisky has appeared in 10 games for the Bears and completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,469 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has also rushed for 363 yards and three touchdowns.
