The Chicago Bears announced Friday that they’ve exercised their fifth-year option on G Kyle Long.

The fifth-year option will run them over $8.8 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.
This was as close to a no-brainer as they come, given that Long is among the best interior offensive linemen in the game.
Long, 27, was taken by the Bears with the No. 20 overall pick in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $8,300,952 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $777,158 for the 2016 season.
In 2015, Long appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 37 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
