Bears Place LB D.J. Williams On I.R. & Sign RB Montell Owens

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that they have placed veteran LB D.J. Williams on season-ending injured reserve and signed RB Montell Owens.

Williams, 32, signed a one-year, $1,268,750 contract with the Bears back in March. This season, he’s appeared in 12 games and recorded 46 tackles for Chicago.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players due to a poor rating in pass coverage.

Owens, 30, signed a two-year, $2.5 million contract with the Detroit Lions back in May of last year. However, he was placed on waivers just a few days ago and wound up going unclaimed.

He has appeared in three games this season, but has primarily been a special teams contributor.
