Bears Place TE Zach Miller On Injured Reserve & Announce Other Roster Moves

The Bears announced that they have placed TE Zach Miller on injured reserve.

Chicago also announced that they signed QB David Fales to their active roster, promoted LB Jonathan Anderson from the practice squad, and signed DL Lawrence Okoye and DL Jimmy Staten to their practice squad.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. RB/KR Raheem Mostert (Injured)
  2. WR Daniel Braverman
  3. LB Ronald Powell
  4. TE Rory Anderson (injured)
  5. WR Darius Jennings
  6. RB David Cobb
  7. DB Jacoby Glenn
  8. OT Williams Poehls
  9. QB Josh Woodrum
  10. G Cyril Richardson
  11. DL Lawrence Okoye
  12. DL Jimmy Staten

Miller sustained a broken foot during Week 11’s game and was expected to miss the remainder of the season, so this move doesn’t come as a surprise.

Miller, 32, is a former sixth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He signed on with the Bears last year and returned to the team on a two-year, $5.5 million contract. The deal includes $3 million guaranteed.

Miller stands to make a base salary of $1.5 million this season and another $1.5 million next year.

In 2016, Miller had appeared in 10 games and caught 47 passes for 486 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Okoye, 25, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent back in 2013. He was considered to be a developmental project, seeing as he was a former rugby and track star.

After a little over two years in San Francisco, Okoye signed on to the Cardinals’ practice squad last year. He later signed on with the Jets, who elected to make Okoye an offensive lineman upon adding him to their practice squad. However, they waived him this past June.

The Cowboys signed him to a contract this summer but he was later cut loose at the start of the season.

Chicago brought him in for a workout on Tuesday, so it appears they were impressed enough to sign him to a contract.

Okoye has yet to appear in an NFL game.
