Bears Place K Cairo Santos On Injured Reserve, Sign K Mike Nugent

The Chicago Bears have paced K Cairo Santos on injured reserve Monday and signed veteran K Mike Nugent, according to Brad Biggs.

Santos, 26, wound up signing on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane back in 2014. He returned to the Chiefs this past March on a one-year restricted deal worth $1.797 million.

Kansas City elected to place him on injured reserve with a groin strain at the start of the season and cut him loose with a settlement soon after. The Bears just recently signed him to a contract.

In 2017, Santos has appeared in five games and converted four of his five field goal attempts along with 14 of 14 extra point tries.

Nugent, 35, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2005. He has spent the past six seasons with the Bengals but has really struggled this year.

Nugent was in the final year of his two-year, $3.5 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.2 million for the 2016 season when the Bengals cut him loose in December of last year.

The Giants signed Nugent to a contract during the preseason only to cut him loose soon after. Nugent had a brief stint with the Cowboys during the season.

In 2017, Nugent has appeared in four games and converted 7 of 9 field goal attempts (77.8 percent) and 8 of 8 extra point tries.
