Bears HC John Fox announced that QB Jay Cutler has a right thumb sprain that is unlikely to require surgery. Fox added that Cutler is considered day-to-day.

Fox also denied that Cutler injured his thumb during their Week 1 loss to the Texans.

Cutler took every snap last week in practice that he normally takes and it did not appear to affect him,” Fox said, per Zach Zaidman.

  • According to Rapoport, the issue now is whether Cutler will undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments in his thumb or not.

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Bears QB Jay Cutler has ligament damage in his right (throwing) thumb.

Multiple sources tell Jahns that Cutler sustained the injury during the team’s season opener. A separate source mentioned that Cutler could be out three to fours weeks with this injury.

“I’m concerned,” Cutler told reporters after the game. “As a quarterback, you kind of need your right thumb. So I think it was [2011] when I had surgery on this thumb. So we’ll see what it is.”

After Monday night’s game, Bears QB Jay Cutler had a cast on his right hand after he sustained an injury to his thumb.

Cutler is scheduled to undergo tests Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

Regarding the injury, Cutler said that he lost strength in his hand and was unable to grip the ball, which explains why he was taken to the locker room.

Bears QB Jay Cutler left Monday night’s game against the Eagles with what appeared to be a right thumb injury.

Cutler was replaced by Brian Hoyer while he was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation.

Cutler, 33, is in the third year of his seven-year, $126.7 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $16 million for the 2016 season.

Entering today’s game, Cutler had thrown for 216 yards while completing 55.2 percent of his passes to go along with one touchdown and an interception.
