Bears Re-Sign OLB Howard Jones To PS, Waive TE Colin Thompson

The Chicago Bears announced that they have re-signed OLB Howard Jones to their practice squad and waived TE Colin Thompson in a corresponding roster move.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. OL Brandon Greene
  2. DL Rashaad Coward
  3. OL Cameron Lee
  4. DB Doran Grant
  5. WR Nelson Spruce
  6. G Travis Averill
  7. WR Tanner Gentry
  8. WR Demarcus Ayers
  9. DB Alex Carter
  10. OLB Howard Jones

Jones, 27, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in Pittsburgh before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Buccaneers’ practice squad.

Tampa Bay declined to tender him an exclusive rights offer this past February which allowed him to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent. Jones signed on to the Bears’ practice squad in October before he was promoted to their active roster a month later.

Chicago promoted him to the active roster for Week 12 but waived him last week.

In 2016, Jones appeared in eight games for the Buccaneers and recorded three tackles and fumble a recovery.
