Bears Release DL Ray McDonald Following Arrest

The Chicago Bears announced the released of veteran DL Ray McDonald on Monday just hours after the news broke that he had been arrested forĀ “physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby.

Bears GM Ryan Pace released a statement regarding the move:

We believe in secondĀ chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear.Ā He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him.

McDonald, 30,Ā signed a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Bears that included $450,000 available through incentives.

For what it’s worth,Ā releasing McDonald would free up $1,037,500 in available cap space while creating noĀ dead money,Ā according to OverTheCap.com.

In 2014, McDonald appeared in 14 games and recorded 39 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the 49ers.Ā Pro Football FocusĀ has him rated as the N0. 12Ā defensive end in a 3-4 defenseĀ out of 47Ā qualifying players.
