Bears Release Veteran DE C.J. Wilson, Promote DB Demontre Hurst

The Chicago Bears officially released DE C.J. Wilson and promoted DB Demontre Hurst to their active roster on Saturday.

Wilson, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Packers back in 2010. Wilson played out his rookie contract with Green Bay before signing on with the Raiders as an unrestricted free agent back in 2014.

Wilson was released by the Lions before signing on with the Saints in June. Wilson was among the Saints’ roster cuts coming out of the preseason before signing on with the Bears last week. Chicago cut him loose last Saturday before re-signing him early in the week.

In 2015, Wilson has appeared in 12 games and recorded 12 11 tackles and sack between the Raiders and Lions.

Hurst, 25, wound up going undrafted out of Oklahoma back in 2013 before signing on with the Bears. Hurst was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but has been on and off of their practice squad the past three seasons.

Hurst was in the final year of his two-year, $1.110 million contract when the Bears waived him coming out of the preseason. Chicago signed him to their practice squad a day later.

In 2015, Hurst appeared in seven games for the Bears and recorded a five tackles.
