Bears Release Veteran G Matt Slauson

The Chicago Bears announced Sunday that they’ve officially released veteran G Matt Slauson.

It’s clear that the Bears are looking to create room for their draft picks. However, Slauson was a very effective player last year, and should find interest from other teams.

Slauson, 30, was in the third year of his four-year, $12.8 million contract that included $4.9 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $2.85 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $2,570,000 in available cap space while creating $835,000 in dead money.

In 2015, Slauson appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 5 center out of 39 qualifying players.
