Bears Releasing Veteran K Robbie Gould

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bears have informed veteran K Robbie Gould that he is being released.

It makes you wonder if this is a move to free up some cap space to sign veteran G Josh Sitton, who is visiting with the team.

Gould, 34, originally signed on with the Patriots back in 2005 as an undrafted free agent, but he lasted just a few months in New England before joining the Ravens briefly and later signing on with the Bears.

Gould was in the fourth year of his five-year, $17.925 million contract that includes $8.85 million guaranteed. He was set to make base salaries of $3 million over the final two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Gould will free up $3 million in available cap space while creating $1.1 million in dead money.

In 2015, Gould appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and converted 33 of 39 field goal attempts (84.6 percent) to go along with 28 of 29 extra point tries (96.6 percent) and 39 touchbacks.
