Bears Rework Jay Cutler’s Contract, Create $4M In Cap Space

According to Brian McIntyre, the Chicago Bears restructured QB Jay Cutler’s contract in recent days.

  • McIntyre notes that the Bears converted $5 million of his $22.5M base salary into a signing bonus, and in turn created $4 million in cap space.

Cutler, 30, signed a seven-year, $126.7 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed back in January of this year. However, the contract was structured so that Chicago could get out of deal in the third year without taking a cap hit.

According to the most recent cap figures provided by the NFLPA, the Bears have $7,237,239 in available cap space to work with as of now.
