The Chicago Bears announced Sunday evening that rookie OLB Leonard Floyd has been released from the hospital.

Update: Leonard Floyd has been released from the local hospital and will return with the team to Chicago tonight.

Bears HC John Fox told reporters after Sunday’s game that rookie OLB Leonard Floyd is at the hospital undergoing tests, but “things look encouraging” for him right now.

According to Fox, Floyd was moving but he isn’t sure if Floyd will fly home with the team on Sunday night.

Bears rookie OLB Leonard Floyd was carted off after being immobilized following what appears to be a scary neck injury that he suffered during Sunday’s game.

The good news is that Floyd was moving before he was evaluated by the Bears’ training staff. However, he was taken to the locker room and ruled out for the game.

Based on video of the play, David Chao mentions that Floyd appears to have suffered an axial load injury. Chao adds that Floyd has a low-risk of paralysis but a higher risk for injury given the mechanism.

Medical personnel brought out a back board for Floyd and loaded him onto a cart to head for further evaluation, although Floyd was moving both before and after the trainers came to check him out.

Floyd, 24, was taken with the No. 9 overall pick by the Bears back in May. He’s currently in the first year of his four-year, $15.7 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season.

Entering today’s game, Floyd had recorded 23 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery returned for a touchdown, and a pass defense.
