Bears Sign OLB Willie Young To Two-Year, $13.55M Extension

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Bears have signed OLB Willie Young to a two-year extension.

  • Brad Biggs reports that Young’s two-year contract with the Bears is worth $13.55 million.
  • According to Biggs, Young will make $5.85 million this season, which includes  $2.7M signing bonus, $2.3M roster bonus, $800K base and $50K workout bonus he earned.
  • Young will be under team control through the 2018 season.

Young reportedly requested a trade last year and had been a popular name in trade rumors since then. However, the two sides had been discussing a new extension for a few months now, and it appears as though they’ve finally worked out the details of an agreement.

Young, 30, was in the final year of his three-year, $9 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $2.45 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Young appeared in 15 games for the Bears and recorded 30 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.
