The Chicago Bears announced that they’ve signed veteran FB Darrel Young to a contract on Thursday and placed FB Joe Sommers on waivers.
- Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune first reported that the Bears were expected to sign Young.
Young was clearly on the Bears’ radar as a potential addition after he attended their minicamp in June on a tryout basis.
Young, 29, signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova back in 2009. He played out his rookie contract before signing a three-year extension with Washington in 2013.
Young has been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent, but this is the first reported interest in him since free agency got under way several months ago.
In 2015, Young appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins, but was limited to six carries for 10 yards to go along with six receptions for 22 yards and no touchdowns.
