Bears Sign Veteran LB Kelvin Sheppard, Waive LB Hendrick Ekpe

The Chicago Bears announced Friday that they’ve signed veteran LB Kelvin Sheppard to a contract and waived LB Hendrick Ekpe.

Sheppard recently worked out for the Dolphins but left Miami without a contract.

Sheppard, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Bills back in 2011. He lasted over two years in Buffalo before he was traded to the Colts in return for DE Jerry Hughes.

Sheppard lasted just over a year in Indianapolis before he waived at the start of the 2014 season and later signed by the Dolphins. The Giants signed him to a contract last year and he’s been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Sheppard appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 50 tackles, no sacks, and two pass defenses.
