Bears Sign WR Nelson Spruce To Practice Squad, Release LB Jason Thompson

The Chicago Bears signed WR Nelson Spruce to their practice squad on Monday and released LB Jason Thompson from the unit, according to Zach Zaidman.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. OL Brandon Greene
  2. DL Rashaad Coward
  3. OL Cameron Lee
  4. TE Ben Braunecker (Exception)
  5. WR Mario Alford
  6. NT Mike Purcell
  7. DB Doran Grant
  8. LB Carl Bradford
  9. WR Darreus Rogers
  10. WR Nelson Spruce

Spruce, 24, joined the Rams as an undrafted rookie out of Colorado back in May and was able to make the team’s 53-man roster. He was signed to a three-year, $1.62 million contract and is earning a base salary of $4500 this season.

The Rams placed Spruce on injured reserve during the season before eventually designating him to return in December. Los Angeles waived Spruce with an injury designation coming out of the preseason before later being waived with an injury settlement.

During his four-year college career at Colorado, he accumulated 294 receptions for 3,347 yards receiving and 23 touchdowns.
