Bears Signing OLB Pernell McPhee To A Five-Year, $40M Contract

Aaron Leming first reported that the Bears were closing in on a five-year deal worth $40 million with OLB Pernell McPhee.

  • Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun has confirmed the report and adds that McPhee will receive $16 million as part of this agreement.
  • Wilson adds that the Redskins were among several other teams interested in McPhee.

McPhee, 26, recorded 27 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble and four pass defenses over the course of 16 games for the Ravens last year.

Pro Football Focus has McPhee rated as the No. 2 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense last year out of 46 qualifying players. Although, McPhee’s impressive rating is due in large part to his ability to play the run, rather than as a pass rusher.

We have McPhee rated as the No. 8 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
