Bears Targeting FA Wide Receivers?

It’s been speculated that the Chicago Bears will be looking to sign a free agent wide receiver this year and the names of Sidney Rice, Plaxico Burress and Chad Ochocinco appear to be popular options as of now.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was asked about the chances of Rice or Burress ending up in Chicago to which he responded, “it wouldn’t surprise me.”

“I also wouldn’t completely dismiss the possibility of Chad Ochocinco landing there, since Cincinnati is not expected to pay him $6.25 million this season,” added Schefter.

Bears head coach Lovie Smith has already hinted that they may be looking at taller wide receivers so I’d say that Rice and Burress are worthy of the speculation. Ochocinco is a few inches shorter than the other two players I guess there’s a chance he could enter the conversation at some point.

    • Santana Moss could be a good possession for the Bears but I could see them using Earl Bennett a lot in the coming season.

While Vincent Jackson could be available at the trade deadline, I wouldn’t expect him to be available until 2012. The Chargers have a pretty easy schedule this year so I don’t see them shopping him come week 6.

I really like Malcom Floyd. While he may not be as good of a receiver as Jackson but he could be a better value.

Chicago has wide receivers that can stretch the field with Johnny Knox and Devin Hester but they’re lacking size so I’d have to say that Floyd makes the most sense of the three.
