Bears TE Zach Miller Still Hoping To Resume Career After Serious Knee Injury

Bears TE Zach Miller, who suffered a very scary knee injury last season that nearly cost him his leg, says he’s now “out of the woods” and hoping to resume his NFL career again.

Miller tells Scott Voorhees on 1110 KFAB that he’s aware a comeback may not be in the cards for him and if it isn’t, “then that’s just the way it goes and we’ve got to move on and do something else.”

The hardest part of returning from a serious knee injury, according to Miller, is likely to be the mental hurdles he’ll have to get over.

“Physically I’ve been through a number of surgeries or whatever it may be,” Miller said. “I can recover from that. But the mental aspect is something you’ve got to learn how to work it, how to block out some stuff and really just stay positive, which I’ve done a pretty good job doing.”

Miller admitted that seeing photos of the injury is hard enough and he may not ever watch the video.

“I’ve seen still shots of it, pictures of it, on accident,” Miller said. “Maybe a week ago was the first time I was able to look at the picture and not turn away. I don’t know if I’ll watch the video, if I ever will.”

Miller, 33, is a former sixth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He signed on with the Bears in 2015 and returned to the team on a two-year, $5.5 million contract includes $3 million guaranteed in 2016.

Miller made a base salary of $1.5 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2017, Miller appeared in eight games and caught 20 passes for 236 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
