Bears Had Interest In Claiming RB Matt Jones, But Prioritized Other Players

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Bears had interest in claiming RB Matt Jones yesterday, but he ultimately went to the Colts, as Chicago prioritized other waiver wire additions.

The Bears did, however, come away with LS Andrew DePaola, WR Tre McBride, and RB Taquan Mizzell off of waivers on Sunday.

Jones, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Redskins back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.952 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $639,113 in 2017.

The Colts claimed Jones off of waivers from the Redskins, as they cut their roster down to 53 players this past weekend.

In 2016, Jones has appeared in seven games and rushed for 490 yards on 144 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 304 yards receiving and four total touchdowns.
