Jason La Canfora reports that the Bears are finalizing an agreement with Mel Tucker to become their next defensive coordinator.

La Canfora adds that the deal is being finalized right now. We’ll have more as the news becomes available.

Dan Pompei reports that league sources have informed him that the Chicago Bears are “very interested” Mel Tucker for the defensive coordinator vacancy.

Rod Marinelli decided to move on and seek new opportunities elsewhere instead of remaining on Marc Trestman’s staff.

Tucker has been with the Jaguars since 2009 as their defensive coordinator and was promoted to assistant head coach this season. He drew interest from the Wisconsin Badgers regarding their head coaching vacancy, but didn’t get the job.

He employs a similar scheme to what the Bears have been running in recent years, so there wouldn’t be a difficult transition for Chicago to make with this hire.

    • There was a report that came out just minutes before the Bears agreed to a deal with Tucker that said Morris would be interviewing on Saturday, but apparently wasn’t the case. Morris reportedly met with the Browns, but they too agreed to a deal with a different option.
